In the light of the epidemic status
of tuberculosis in the buffalo of the Kruger National Park in South
Africa, scientists were extremely concerned about the threat posed
by TB to the lion population of the park. Until recently, no
clinical means of diagnosing TB in lion existed. But a reliable test
was recently developed and for the first time it became possible to
evaluate the impact of the disease in lion. This research is being
carried out by veterinarian Dr Dewald Keet with funds provided by
the SAVF.
